This session is targeted to both trustees and school administrators and is designed to help explain the importance of an updated policy manual; what should be in the manual and why; how to organize a policy manual for quick and easy access and the tools available to them to help keep a manual updated. Participants will learn how to keep their policy manual updated and compliant with law and code, and understand how the policy manual can improve a charter school’s governance over curriculum, student achievement, board operation, and staff/student responsibilities while reducing potential liability.

Lou is a policy consultant with New Jersey School Boards Association and currently serves on their School Safety and Security Task Force and Charter Schools Committee, which he chairs. He has developed a Charter School Critical Reference Policy Manual.
